The earnings of some Mexican farmworkers means a middle-class lifestyle for their families back home. Orchard foreman Martín Rodríguez, 37, visits the house he has remodeled for his mother, Josefina Alejo, 70. "You can be with lots of people, plenty of company, and have too many wives," he said. "But you've only got one mother." Rodríguez became a U.S. citizen in 1998.
