Story

1986. Mounted on its aircraft, Boeing's sophisticated radar surveillance technology -- the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) -- maintained the company's high-tech leadership. 1989. While Boeing employs 53 percent of all Washington high-tech workers, half the state's 1,140 high-tech firms now have fewer than 10 employees.
