Daniel Hernandez strains to pull a seine into place in a side channel of the Elwha River. He was working with an interagency team of scientists to gather baseline data in the river before dam removal. Scientists used the seine to catch fish and learn what they were eating by sampling the bugs in their stomachs. The fish were then returned to the river, still swimming.
