Joining EMP
Membership: Charter members can get into the museum for free an unlimited number of times throughout the year but during the summer they must make ticketing arrangements through Ticketmaster to reserve a time to visit. When you go to an outlet to reserve and pick up your tickets, you need to bring your ticket code (which you should have received in a recently mailed letter) and photo ID. Memberships costing less than $100 are fully tax-deductible, the rest are at least 70 percent deductible.
Service fees: When charter members reserve tickets, they do not have to pay Ticketmaster service charges. However, if they also purchase tickets for nonmembers, service fees will apply to any nonmember tickets unless they are purchased from the box office at KeyArena.
Levels: Memberships range from $45 ($35 for students and out-of-towners) to $5,000, and the perks increase with the price. The basic membership is Acoustic, $45 for an individual or $60 for two adults who share a residence. It gets you unlimited free access to the museum with express admission through a members' entrance; a 10 percent discount on EMP merchandise; and advance notice and ticket purchase opportunities for EMP events and other perks.
Electric Family: At $100, the membership tier for broods includes the same access as a dual Acoustic plus access for your kids under 18, two free single-use guest passes, and up to 25 percent discount for EMP guest lectures, concerts, films and other special events. For $50 more, your family moves up to the Talent Scout tier, which includes two additional single-use guest passes, two invitations to EMP backstage events and recognition in EMP's Feedback magazine.
Superstar: At the upper-crusty, chi-chi end of the membership ladder is the $5,000 Superstar Tier. Among other things, you'll get valet parking, complimentary tickets for two to any EMP-sponsored event, a pair of tickets to EMP's annual Gala celebration and the opportunity to reserve EMP's Blue Lounge for private parties. That, and bragging rights to all your friends.
