The Seattle Daily Times

ABOUT THE CENTENNIAL PAGES:

As a part of the Seattle Times' yearlong Centennial project, historians Sharon Boswell and Lorraine McConaghy work with newspaper staff, researching and gathering images for the Centennial pages. These weekly pages, with their colorful writing of a century of Northwest history, reflect the Seattle Times' ongoing commitment to history and education.

Sharon Boswell graduated from Princeton University, completed an M.A. in American history and Native American studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is nearing completion of her doctoral work in the History Department at the University of Washington. Her research focus is 20th century Western history and ethnology.

She teaches courses at local universities and is a member of many regional and national historical associations. She is a past-president of the Northwest Oral History Association, and former chair of the Nominating Committee and regional representative to the Oral History Association.

Lorraine McConaghy is an urban historian who has strong research interests in the study of family and community in the Pacific Northwest. She received her doctorate at the University of Washington in 1993, and teaches at Pacific Lutheran University as well as the UW.

McConaghy is active in many national professional organizations, including the American Historical Association and the Urban History Association, as well as in regional and local heritage organizations, including the Northwest Oral History Association and the Pacific Northwest Historians Guild.

The Centennial pages as they appear in the newspaper are the work of Seattle Times page designer Mike Kellams, copy editor Kathy Triesch, photo editor Gary Settle and associate managing editor Cyndi Nash.

The Table Topics ads as they appear in the newspaper were developed by Seattle Times marketing staff members Sally Beane, Pamela Leptich and Felis Sanchez.
