Seattle U swats Washington State 7-4 in nonconference baseball
Dalton Hurd’s three-run homer in the eighth inning snaps a tie, lifting the Redhawks past the visiting Cougars.
Dalton Hurd hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning to propel Seattle University to a 7-4 nonconference baseball victory over Washington State at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.
The Redhawks (30-18) took a 2-0 lead on Brock Carpenter’s two-run single.
Washington State (15-28) gained the lead a half inning later, 3-2, on back-to-back RBI doubles by Stefan Van Horn and Jack Strunc, but a run walked home and a sacrifice fly put Seattle U back on top, 4-3, through three.
The Cougars tied the score in the sixth as Justin Harrer singled home Ty Johnson with two outs.
For WSU, senior Patrick McGrath collected two hits and Van Horn drove in two runs.

• Seattle U’s Mandie Maddux leads the heptathlon after the first day at the WAC track and field championships in Lawrence, Kan., after scoring 2,879 points. The next-closest competitor is Mally McGarity from Grand Canyon with 2,736 points.
• Seattle U outfielder Isabella Geronimo was selected to the All-WAC softball team. Designated player Paige Bouska was chosen to the second team.
