The Elwha: Travel a river being reborn

Slide alder is a tough, early colonizer of disturbed ground, named for its ability to take over after an avalanche or landslide. Botanists hope it will be just the thing to help hold the soil, revegetate bare ground and beat out invasive weeds after the reservoirs drain.
