Washington men place fourth in Pac-12 golf

The Huskies finish at 23-over 1,443. Stanford won its third consecutive team title and Arizona State’s Jon Rahm was the individual winner.

SALT LAKE CITY – Washington finished fourth in the men’s Pac-12 golf championships at the The Country Club in Salt Lake City.

The Huskies finished at 23-over 1,443.

No. 4 Stanford easily won its third straight conference title, finishing at 18-under 1,402, followed by No. 13 California at 11 over.

Washington State was ninth at 56-over 1,476.

Arizona State’s Jon Rahm won the individual title by four strokes at 12-under 272.

UW’s Corey Pereira tied for ninth at 1-under 283. Carl Yuan was 14th at 286. WSU’s Derek Bayley tied for 19th at 4-over 288.

Baseball

• Closer Troy Rallings helped the Huskies to a 7-4 win over California in a Pac-12 game.

With a runner on second and one out in the sixth, Rallings got the call from the bullpen and was asked to hold a 4-3 lead. He got the next two batters in the sixth and then the final nine outs of the game to pick up his Pac-12-leading 14th save.

The Huskies (25-15, 11-7 Pac-12) added an insurance run in the seventh and two more in the ninth against the Golden Bears (24-16, 9-11).

• Washington State dropped the rubber game 11-7 of its weekend series at Oregon. Washington State (14-25, 7-14 Pac-12) led 7-5 heading into the eighth inning before Oregon used five hits, two walks and a hit batter to score six runs in the inning.

• Seattle University (28-15, 15-3 WAC) completed a series sweep with a 6-4 victory over Texas Rio Grande Valley (18-21, 7-8). Sean Sutton was 3 for 5 and Jeffrey Morgan drove in a team-high three runs.

Softball

• Utah broke through against No. 10 Washington (32-11,13-8 Pac-12) in the seventh inning and held on for a 6-5 victory.

Anissa Urtez had a bases-clearing double in the seventh.

In the bottom half of the inning, the first five Huskies reached base and they pulled to 6-5 on a bases-loaded walk to Casey Stangel and a two-run single from Morganne Flores. But Utah’s Miranda Viramontes got out of the jam.

Beach volleyball

• Washington’s strong run at the Pac-12 beach volleyball championships at USC came to an end. The Huskies (5-6) fell to third-seeded Arizona, 5-0, as the Wildcats were 3-0 in third sets.

Notes

Vic Mansaray scored in the 20th minute but OKC Energy FC scored in the final seconds of stoppage time to forge a 1-1 tie with Sounders FC 2 at Starfire Sports Complex.
