Washington baseball shuts out Saint Mary’s 3-0
Huskies win final three games of series against Gaels.
Three Washington pitchers combined to shut out Saint Mary’s, 3-0, Sunday at Husky Ballpark, giving the Huskies wins in three of four games over the Gaels.
After dropping the Friday night game 5-3, the Pac-12 leading Huskies (22-14) rebounded to win the final three games of the series over WCC-leading Saint Mary’s (22-15).
UW’s pitching staff allowed just two runs over the final three games, including recording its second shutout of the season. Greg Minier (4-0) set the tone for the pitching staff, throwing five scoreless innings, allowing four hits, one walk and striking out a batter to pick up his fourth win of the season.
Other baseball
• Seattle University (25-14, 12-3 Western Athletic Conference) scored one run early and allowed Utah Valley (22-18, 8-7 WAC) just two hits for a 1-0 victory in the series finale.
Janson Junk (3-3) allowed one hit in six innings and struck out five. Sean Sutton singled in Griffin Andreychuk in the first inning.
• Shane Matheny homered and drove in a career-high five runs and sophomore reliever Scotty Sunitsch threw five innings for Washington State (13-23, 6-12) in a 9-2 Pac-12 victory over USC (18-20, 7-8) at Bailey-Brayton Field.
• Gonzaga (24-13) completed its home schedule, dropping a 6-0 decision to Santa Clara.
Softball
• The No. 10-ranked Washingtons bats came alive to win the series finale, 7-2, at Oregon State (27-16-1,6-12 Pac-12),
Junior Ali Aguilar hit a pair of home runs, upping her season total to 20, which leads the Pac-12. The Huskies (30-10,11-7 Pac-12) recorded 13 hits. Aguilar led the team with four runs batted in while Tannon Snow went 3 for 3 with an RBI. The freshman went 6 for 8 over the weekend with three RBI.
Women’s golf
• Shooting an even-par 72, New Mexico State’s Kennedie Montoya led the Aggies to a third straight WAC title, winning the individual title at Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club in Blaine. She won by two strokes over Dorsey Addicks of Seattle U. The Aggies were 20-over 884, 16 ahead of second-place Seattle U. Addicks and teammate Alexus Song were first-team all-WAC.
