The Elwha: Travel a river being reborn

Wildlife biologist Kim Sager-Fradkin climbs into a cage in March 2011 to reset a trap for river otters for a study by the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. She was tracking the animals' distribution in the Elwha River Valley to learn how it changes with dam removal. Scientists expect to see changes throughout the Elwha ecosystem as fish come back to the river.
