The Elwha: Travel a river being reborn

Elwha Dam, looking south toward the glacial source of the river in the Olympic Mountains. Built in 1910 without fish passage, it will be entirely removed beginning in September 2011, in a process expected to take about three years. The dam's power has been replaced by the Bonneville power grid.
