USC running back Silas Redd helped USC build its early lead with 108 yards in the first half and 155 for the game, on 26 carries. Redd, a transfer from Penn State, broke loose for a 57-yard run on the Trojans' first possession, setting up a field goal.

USC quarterback Matt Barkley showed why he's a potential first-round NFL draft choice when he fired a pass into a tight space for an 18-yard touchdown to tight end Xavier Grimble in the second quarter.

Turning point

Washington was threatening to cut into USC's 24-14 lead when it had the ball inside the 10-yard line early in the fourth quarter. But Huskies quarterback Keith Price was stripped of the ball by USC's Jawanza Starling as he tried to scramble, with Starling recovering at the 4. USC then ran off more than five minutes to just about put the game away.

Washington freshman safety Shaq Thompson suffered a foot/ankle injury in the fourth quarter.
